PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the communication failures in a simple circuit constitution by placing a receiving circuit and a transmitting circuit which alternately transmits a fixed bit string and its inverted bit string at a specific bit position of the serial data to be sent and detecting the communication failures according to whether the fixed bit string and its inverted bit string are alternately detected or not via the receiving circuit. SOLUTION: A counter 31 counts 256 synchronously with a clock signal, and a decoder 32 decides the inserting position of a bit string that is used for detection of failures. A buffer 33 amplifies the inputted data signals, and an AND gate 34 outputs an AND of those data signals and the output of the decoder 32 to the comparators 35 and 36 respectively. Both comparators 35 and 36 confirm the normality of a bit string that is used for detection of the presence or absence of failures. The coincidence detection circuits 37 and 38 count the discordance signals which are outputted from the comparators 35 and 36.
