PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attenuate a waveform stored in a raster memory of a digital oscilloscope while sustaining a residual image. SOLUTION: An entire range, up to the maximum value of a brightness related memory content stored at each memory position of a raster memory, is divided into at least two areas of top and bottom areas. The brightness related memory content at a memory position in the top area is attenuated using a first attenuation function FT, and the brightness related memory content at a memory position in the bottom area is attenuated using a second attenuation function FB.
