PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image sensor provided with an on-chip circuit element. SOLUTION: In imaging device and method for capturing images and storing them inside the photosensitive area (172) of the device by a digital form, the integration of the arrays of memory cells inside the respective pixels (68) of the photosensitive area is included. Preferably, the memory cell is a dual port memory cell, a write operation is parallelly executed and a read operation is serially executed. In a preferable execution form, the respective arrays are provided with the number of the memory cells sufficient for storing two digital words for indicating an optical signal and a reference signal. A comparator inside the respective pixels is operated simultaneously with a counter (174) and a lamp wave generator (176) and captures the optical signal and the reference signal by the digital form. By the design of the imaging device, the respective pixels of the photosensitive area parallelly capture and store the signals.
