PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the transmission of a response message or the like different for every caller at the time of call incoming, the recording of a message to the caller being message desination from outside, and quick recording reproducing for every transmission telephone number in an answering telephone set which uses a caller's telephone number from a telephone line. SOLUTION: A telephone directory memory of an answering telephone set stores a telephone number and a name, a message number of the like which is transmitted to a caller at the time of response, and the caller's telephone number transmitted from a telephone line at the time of call incoming is collated to the preset telephone number. When they are matched with each other, a response message different for every caller set in a table is transmitted to the callers. Also the answering telephone is called from outside, and a transfer message being a message for the coller who calls to the answering telephone is recorded and stored after listening to the response message. After the caller listens to the response message at the time of incoming call, it is made possible to listen to the transfer message in succession, and moreover to reproduce the message for every caller's telephone number at the time of recording reproducing by an operator.
