The tray (10) has a compartment (18) with a storage plate and a forward face (20) which extends along the front face of the vehicle dashboard when the storage tray is in the non active position. The forward face and storage plate are connected together and pivot about a vertical axis (22) that is perpendicular to the storage plate. The storage tray is moved to the active position by exerting pressure on one end (26) of the forward face. Under this action the storage plate extends outwards from the internal housing (14) of the dashboard until the forward face is arranged inside internal housing.
