The pivotally mounted stator blades 20 in the high pressure axial flow compressor of a gas turbine by-pass engine are angularly adjustable by a rotatable ram actuated ring 22 engaging arms 30 attached to the spindles 21 of the blades. Each arm 30 has at its upstream end an enlarged part-spherical portion 36 with flat parallel sides 37, the part-spherical portion engaging in a similarly shaped aperture 40 in the ring 22. Each aperture 40 has two diametrically opposite straight sided slots (41), Fig.5 (not shown), so that the part-spherical portion 36 can be introduced into its aperture 40 through the slots and then turned through 90‹ to lock it in position in the aperture. Each arm 30 is secured at its other end to the blade spindle 21 by a spigot 33 of the arm fitting freely in a hole 34 in the spindle and held in position by a nut 35. The arm 30 has a central thin flexible portion 31 to accommodate bending. The construction is applicable also to fans and turbines. |
