SOFTWARE KEYBOARD SYSTEM USING TRACE OF POINTED PEN BROUGHT INTO CONTACT WITH TOUCH SCREEN AND KEY CODE RECOGNIZING METHOD BY SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the number of keys and to reduce the size of a keyboard by giving plural key codes to one key and generating one of the given key codes according to the trace of the pointed pen which is drawn on the key. SOLUTION: An A/D converter 104 converts analog coordinate values generated by the movement of the pointed pen 102 on the touch panel 100 to digital coordinate values. A memory 108 stores information regarding the keyboard. A central processor 106 performs control so as to display a keyboard image on a screen 100, also controls the A/D converter 104 so as to output coordinate values generated while the pointed pen 102 moves in contact with the touch panel 100, and judges the key area on the keyboard by using the outputted coordinate values to calculate the size and direction of the vector drawn with the pointed pen by using the coordinate values, thereby generating the key code corresponding to the calculated size and direction of the vector.
