PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a smart card from coming out from a smart card reader owing to vibration by composing a guiding and holding function for the card of abutting elements which are arranged crossing the smart card insertion direction of a guiding device. SOLUTION: Front guiding and holding means 18 and 19 impede the longitudinal movement of the card and are formed integrally with a front cover part 23 and composed of an abutting wall 28 extending downward from the front cover part 23, and the abutting wall 28 has a surface which abuts on the card when the card is inserted to a read position. In order to hold the inserted smart card at the read position, rear card guiding and holding means are provided longitudinally opposite to the card guiding device in addition to the abutting wall 28, and those card abutting surfaces 803 and 804 are constituted of walls 801 and 802. Consequently, the safety against vibration can be improved and a thin type product can easily be obtained.
