PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having superior electromagnetic conversion characteristics and torque characteristics which is suitable for high-density recording. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium consists of a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic supporting body. The magnetic layer contains a binder and a ferromagnetic powder and has 0.7μm thickness or smaller. Surface roughness Ra of the magnetic recording medium is controlled to be 0.5 to 0.7 nm, and skew degree Rsk of the surface of the magnetic recording medium is 0.1 or less. In the magnetic recording medium, a nonmagnetic base coating layer containing a binder and nonmagnetic particles such as carbon black is preferably formed between the nonmagnetic supporting body and the magnetic layer. |
