PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of judging the size of an original to be read even in the case that a base is colored. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with a switching means for setting the input of an original size to manual input or automatic input and the input of the original size is set to the automatic input. In the state of matching one side edge of the original to be read to the position of a home position HP and separating a pressing lid not shown in the figure from cover glass 8 by a prescribed angle, information relating to the size in a length direction (sub scanning direction) of the original to be read is obtained by an original-to-be-read photosensor 10. Also, in the state of closing the pressing lid, the intensity of the reflected light of a lamp 11 to be a light source is detected by a CCD and the size in a width direction (main scanning direction) is judged. From the size in the width direction and the size in the length direction, the plane size of the original to be read is judged by a control part. |
