PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspecting method, being simple, high in work efficiency, and high in reliability, by measuring a voltage between electrodes of a battery before a first charge. SOLUTION: A normal secondary battery exhibits an inter-electrode voltage specific to a system thereof depending on the kind of electrodes used, the kind of electrolyte, and the temperature, when a positive electrode and a negative electrode have been ionically connected to each other. Before an initial charge, if terminals of the positive electrode and the negative electrode have not been brought into conduction, this value falls within a fixed range with its variations included therein. If the electrodes are short-circuited, the specific terminal voltage is discharged through the short circuit and a measured voltage comes near to zero. If foreign matter is mixed in the electrodes or the electrolyte, a measured voltage becomes different from the voltage specific to the system. A voltage measuring device 21 used as a short-circuit inspection device 30, is equipped with positive-electrode measuring terminals 8, 9 capable of contacting with the positive electrode terminal 4 of the battery and negative- electrode measuring terminals 10, 11 capable of contacting with the negative electrode terminal 5 thereof, and can measure an open-circuit voltage by the use of device terminals 16, 19. |
