PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image read method without color slippage at the time of read in a sub scanning direction generated by the difference of the afterglow characteristics of respective colors at the time of the light quantity control of a light source. SOLUTION: Figure (A) illustrates the waveforms of respective parts when the duty ratio of the light quantity control of the light source is 25% and Figure (B) indicates the waveforms of the respective parts in the case that the duty ratio is 60%. As shown in the figures, the driving pulses of the light source are grown almost symmetrically to a time base direction with a reference position as a center corresponding to the increase in the duty ratio and thus, the color slippage generated by the afterglow characteristics of the respective colors of the light source is eliminated.
