PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the structure of an article storage rack so that the inventory of articles can scrupulously be managed in an automatic vending machine reduced in energy consumption and satisfactory in the preservation property of the hot article. SOLUTION: In this automatic vending machine, a serpentine article storage rack 6 where articles are vertically piled up and stored in a line and a cooling/heating unit 4 arranged at the base of a case are installed in the case of a cabinet 1 and the articles are carried out from the rack with the operation of an article carry-out mechanism 9 based on a sales command so as to transmit them to a product take-out port 2a. The article storage rack is halved into upper/lower stages and only the lower rack part 6B is cooled or heated. A shutter device 8 being a drawing-type heating insulating structure is laid between the upper rack part 6A and the lower rack part 6B and the upper rack part 6A and the lower rack part 6B are heat-insulated. An article send-out mechanisms 12 operating with an article supply command from a control part and supplying the articles from the uppers rack part 6Aa to the lower rack part 6B through a shutter device are installed for the respective columns of the upper rack part 6a. The articles are supplied at any time from the upper rack part 6A to the lower rack part 6B in accordance with the selling situation of the articles for the respective columns and the appropriate stock number of the articles is maintained.
