PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to read a waveform data stored in a specific sound source database according to a control instruction code by preparing sound effects such as sound of a chime, a bell, etc., as a specific sound source database in addition to the output of a sound source of a usual synthesized speech, and to make it possible to control the timing of outputs of the speech source and the specific sound source of the sound effects. SOLUTION: This is a speech synthesizer provided with a text data input means 11a for inputting text data consisting of control instruction codes and text codes, a sound source database 12d for accumulating sound source data for speech-outputting the text codes to which a rhythm control information generated by a rhythm pattern generating means is added, and a speech output means 14 for outputting the sound source data combined and edited by a waveform processing means 23. In such a constitution, the speech synthesizer 16 is provided with a specific sound source database 21 storing the sound source data corresponding to the control instruction codes in addition to the sound source database. A database read-out means reads the sound data from the specific sound source database 21 corresponding to the control instruction codes sent from a language processing means 20, and sends out a waveform data to a waveform processing means.
