PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the liquid crystal display device characterized that a transmission type liquid crystal panel using a planar light source as a back light is allowed to keep high display luminance in all directions when the field angle is made wide. SOLUTION: A planar light source 50 transmits surface light through a plate type polarized light separating and recombining element 60, a liquid crystal panel 10, and a polarizing plate 20. Here, the polarized light separating and recombining element 60 converts the surface light from the planar light source 50 to a P-polarized light wave component and makes it incident on the liquid crystal panel 10. The optical axis of the polarized-light separating and recombining element 60 is in cross nicols relation with the optical axis of the polarizing plate 20. |
