PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a starter which allows auxiliary winding to be separated with a number of revolutions corresponding to a power supply frequency, using an electric circuit. SOLUTION: When a rotor 13 is rotated, an electromotive force VI in proportion to the product of the number of revolutions N of the rotor 13 and the magnetic energy B produced in main winding 11 is generated in auxiliary winding 12. Since the electromotive force VI is low when a motor 1 is started, therefore, a switching circuit 25 is turned off then, which connects a single-phase power supply VS with the auxiliary winding 12, and starting torque T is produced. Then the rotor 13 is rotated by the starting torque T. When the electromotive force VI is increased to a certain value as a result, the switching circuit 25 is turned on, and the single-phase power supply VS is separated from the auxiliary winding 12. Since the electromotive force VI is in proportion to the reciprocal of power supply frequency (f) the single-phase power supply VS and the auxiliary winding 12 are separated from each other always with a number of revolutions N0 corresponding to the power supply frequency (f).
