PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation in image information at the time of reduction by determining the gradation data of one dot after the reduction by using the gradation data of all the dots before the reduction constituting one dot after the reduction calculated by a reduction rate. SOLUTION: An image memory controller 1c generates the addresses where the image data desired to be reduced exist by as much as the necessary number of times on the basis of the contents of a circuit 1k for setting the gradation at the time of the reduction and successively receives the data from an image memory 1d. The received data are sent to an image buffer controller 1b and temporarily stored in an image buffer 1a. A display size reduction circuit 1e receives the gradation data of the necessary dots existing within the image buffer 1a according to the contents of the circuit 1k for setting the gradation at the time of the reduction and a reduction rate setting circuit 1f and delivers the data as the gradation data of one dot to a display buffer controller 1h after executing a prescribed computation, such as averaging. The gradation data are stored into the position where the data are displayed within a display buffer 1g.
