PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed detector in which operation can be checked easily. SOLUTION: This speed detector comprises an r.p.m. sensor 3 outputting a pulse signal corresponding to the r.p.m. of an object to be detected, a means 4 for operating the speed based on the pulse signal received from the r.p.m. sensor 3, and a means 5 for displaying the speed thus operated. The operating means has a speed detector check mode for presenting the count of pulse signals received from the r.p.m. sensor on the display means 5.
