SOLUTION: A metal sample 3, arranged inside an irradiated cell 1 introduced with oxygen gas or inert gas in an alternative way, is irradiated with a laser beam 11, and gas G generated at that time is introduced into a mass spectrometer 29 to determine quantitatively at least one from among carbon, sulfur, nitrogen and hydrogen contained in the metal sample 3.
