Water suction powered automatic swimming pool cleaning system

A swimming pool cleaner 6 is powered by suction from a suction pump 12 via hose 11. Water drawn into the cleaner is used to drive a turbine before passing through a debris collector. The turbine drives a pump and a timer and level controller. The timer and level controller operate valves that direct a stream of water from the pump to control the direction of motion and the depth of the cleaner. The cleaner can operate in a wall cleaning mode in which it is held against the wall of the pool, or in a surface skimming mode in which it floats on the surface. The timer causes the motion of the cleaner to alternate between forward and reverse. The cleaner may be fitted with ballast tanks that can be selectively flooded or filled with air to control the cleaner's buoyancy.
