The adjusting means 9 comprises a memory in which there is recorded per animal which animal has been milked and what is the optimal production per animal and/ or per udder quarter. On the basis of the milk quantity per unit of time and the milk quantity derived therefrom, the duration of a milking run may be calculated by a computer, in such a manner that there is obtained a high milk production per animal.
