PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a protective element from malfunctioning due to a surge current or rush current and, at the same time, to suppress the resistance resetting property of the element after an eddy current is interrupted by forming the element in such a way that the resistance of the element rises at every interruption by forming the electrodes of the element by sticking metallic electrode foil to a hot-kneaded product of a crystalline resin, metal carbide power, and an organic peroxide. SOLUTION: Metal carbide power and an organic peroxide are scattered in one kind or a plurality of kinds of crystalline high polymers by means of a heating roll, etc., as conductive powder. The obtained composition is molded together with electrodes by means of a heating press and, at the same time, cross-linked. Thereafter, such an element that its resistance rises at every interruption is manufactured by heat-treating the molded body for about 30 minutes or longer at a temperature of >=70 deg.C lower than the softening temperature of the resin. Therefore, a protective element composed of a PTC element which does not operate with a surge current and rush current and has a low resistance resetting property after interruption can be manufactured and, in addition, the safety of an electric circuit can be improved by shortening the interrupting time when interrupt is repeated.
