PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery separator excellent in electrolyte permeability, electrolyte retainability and a winding property on an electrode. SOLUTION: This nonaqueous electrolyte battery separator is made of a nonwoven fabric containing synthetic fibers having the average fiber length of 0.1-1 mm and ratio of 3-45 between the average fiber length and average fiber major axis. The content of fibers in the nonwoven fabric constituting the nonaqueous electrolyte battery separator is preferably set to 5-80 wt.%. The nonwoven fabric constituting the nonaqueous electrolyte battery separator is preferably pressure-processed or pressure/heat-processed.
