PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device and an optical recording medium discrimination method capable of rapidly and surely discriminating an optical disk. SOLUTION: The optical disk device discriminates a difference among the optical disks 1 with formats different each other when an information signal is recorder or reproduced from an optical system 3 for the optical disk 1, and is provided with a spindle motor 2 and the optical system 3 recording or reproducing the information signal at a prescribed position on the optical disk 1 and detecting a reflection beam from the optical disk 1 of a laser beam emitted to the optical disk 1 having a pre-wobble on both sides or one side of a track, and since the difference among plural kinds of optical disks is discriminated by whether the pre-wobble of the optical disk 1 exist on both sides or one side of the track, a high speed discrimination of the optical disk is performed during servo operation. |
