PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch which does not require the direct control to the output power of a pump laser by optical manipulating the supply of pump energy to a pump dependent attenuator. SOLUTION: The switch 30 comprises a pump source 32, a pump director 34 and the pump dependent attenuator 36. The pump dependent attenuator 36 is capable of allowing the position of the light energy by attenuating the light energy or minimizing the attenuation according to whether the supply of the adequate optical pump energy is received or not. Namely, the pump dependent attenuator 36 is an erbium-doped fiber(EDF) connected to an optical path between the pump director 34 and an output fiber. This EDF attenuates the light signal to be propagated to the EDF unless the pump energy of a pumping wavelength is supplied to the EDF. When the pump energy of the pumping wavelength is supplied thereto, the EDF allows the position of the light signal propagating thereto by amplifying this light signal or suppressing the signal to the least position attenuation. |
