PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head meeting customers' requirements, in a short period, and to improve the yield of the thin-film magnetic head. SOLUTION: A lower shielding layer 53 and a first portion 54a of an upper shielding layer are arranged on the same plane in the state of insulating these layers from each other. Part of a conductive layer 57 constituting an electrode connected to an MR element is arranged into the groove formed between the lower shielding layer 53 and the first portion 54a of the upper shielding layer in the state of insulating the layer from the lower shielding layer 53 and the first portion 54a of the upper shielding layer with an insulated film 56. A thin- film coil 59 is arranged via an insulating layer 58 on the first portion 54a of the upper shielding layer. The thin-film magnetic head is completed by forming the MR element, the first portion 54a of the upper shielding layer arranged on the upper side of the MR element, an upper magnetic pole layer, etc., on such a blank. |
