PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system, capable of tracing a moving object automatically and being constructed at a low cost by using few monitor screens. SOLUTION: Plural cameras 10 are coupled with a monitor 20 through a transmission line 30. The monitor 20 automatically traces a moving object, based on a motion vector MV sent from the cameras 10 and selects sequentially plural cameras 10 and also controls the angle of each camera 10. Then an object to be noted is always displayed on a monitor screen 23. The camera 10 to be selected one after another is predicted in advance based on the motion vector MV, and the angle is set in advance at the position where the object is to appear. Moreover, an image of the camera 10 which captures the object and an image picked up by the camera to be switched next are displayed simultaneously on two monitor screens 23, 24.
