PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the generation of overflow or underflow in the addition processing of luminance data and chrominance data. SOLUTION: An adder 2 adds the luminance data Y to the chrominance data C. When the overflow or the underflow is generated in the added result of the adder 2, an overflow/underflow detector 3 outputs a multiplication coefficient (k) (k<1), corresponding to the degree. A multiplier 4 multiplies the multiplication coefficient (k) by the chrominance data C, and the adder 5 adds the luminance data Y to the output of the multiplier 4. A selector 7 normally selects the output of the adder 2 which passed through a D-FF 6 and selects the output of the adder 5, when the overflow or the underflow is detected in the detector 3.
