PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger in which smoke and soot adhering to a plate can be efficiently removed by effectively absorbing the longitudinal thermal expansion of a scraper, completely supplementing clearances in manufacture error or installation tolerance and ensuring the smooth movement of the scraper. SOLUTION: A heat exchanger comprises a first passage for passing heating fluid K such as combustion exhaust gas, a second passage spaced from the passage 1 and plates 2 for passing fluid R to be heated such as combustion air, long scrapers 5 arranged in the first passage 1, pivotal shafts 6 and 7 for supporting one end parts of of the scrapers 5, pivotal shafts 8 and 9 for supporting the other end parts of the scrapers 5 through a telescopic structure including a lower part and a tubular body and driving means including motors 13 and 14 for reciprocating the scrapers 5 through the pivotal shafts 6, 7, 8 and 9, rotating shafts 11 and 12 and arms 11a and 12a.
