PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a magnetic field of desired strength without causing deterioration of magnetic characteristics. SOLUTION: In a coil for a flat plate-like magnetic head constituted of spiral coil patterns 31a, 31b of a conductive material film and two terminals connected with the spiral coil patterns 31a, 31b, cross-sectional configuration of the coil patterns 31a, 31b is approximately rectangular; a minimum pitch P [μm] of the coil patterns 31a, 31b, a width W [μm] and a height H [μm] of the cross-sectional configuration at the part, where the pitch P is minimal satisfy 15 [μm]<=P<=70 [μm], 1.85-0.012 P<=H/W<=7.5-0.06 P, and furthermore, under the condition that the core of a magnetic substance is not attached, and when the impedance Z0 across the two terminals of the coil is equivalently composed of an inductance L0, a high frequency resistance Rp0 in parallel with the inductance L0, and a DC resistance Rs which is in series with the inductance L0 and independent of frequencies, an inductance L0 at 10 MHz [μH] is made to satisfy L0<=0.85 [μH].
