Distillation takes place in modular elements, divided into evaporation (EVAP) and condensation (COND) zones by a vertical wall with openings. The elements are arranged such that evaporation zones are sandwiched between condensation zones of adjacent units, so the heat released during condensation is used in the next evaporator. Preferred Features: Liquid for distillation trickles over packing in the evaporation zone and vapor passes through a porous layer and openings into the condensation zone.
