PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cover the disturbance in alignment of liquid crystals with the electrically conductive light-shielding layer by performing a patterning for the periphery of a lower with a mask that is used for patterning an upper layer, of either one of a layer to be formed into a pixel electrode and a layer to be formed into an electrically conductive light-shielding layer. SOLUTION: In this device, a transparent substrate is provided on its surface side with an upper layer side interlaminar insulating film and a chromium layer 116bb (conductive light-shielding layer) that has both light-shielding properties and electric conductivity and is formed on the surface of the upper layer side interlaminar insulating film. This device consists of, a transparent substrate 109 provided with a matrix array and a black matrix 116, and liquid crystals encapsulated in the space between the transparent substrate 109 and the other transparent substrate. By taking advantage of the fact that each of such chromium layers, for example, the chromium layer 116bb is definitely formed in the boundary regions between a pixel region 101bb and the surrounding pixel regions and accordingly, each of chromium layers 116bb, 116ab, 116ba, 116cb,..., is utilized as a part of a black matrix. |
