PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a focusing point at a high speed by preventing the focusing point from being erroneously detected caused by the effect of the periodical noise of a fluorescent lamp or the like in an automatic focusing device arranged in an electronic still camera such as a digital camera. SOLUTION: By moving a focusing lens for every sampling distance Ds, sample data being the integrated value of high-frequency components of a detected image signal is obtained for every sampling cycle. By comparing the sample data P3 obtained at present with the sample data P0 obtained in the past as many as the number of sampling of a common multiple calculated based on the cycle of a noise signal superimposed on the image signal and the sampling cycle, the focusing point of the focusing lens is accurately detected at a high speed. |
