he compounds have potassium channel opening activity and are 2,2-di(C1-5alkyl)-4-carboxamido-6-(N-arylsulphonamido)-2H-1-benzopyrans and trans-2,2-di(C1-5alkyl)-3,4-dihydro-3-hydroxy-4-carboxamido-6-(N-arylsulphonamido)-2H-1-benjzopyrans. Preferably they have the above formula where R1 is a mono- or bicyclic aromatic group, the remaining groups being common substituents.
