<p>An apparatus and associated method for applying labels (12) having a pressure sensitive adhesive on at least one face to articles (18). The label applicator includes a supporting structure (34) supporting a label dispenser (36) having a peeler bar (42) and a label receiver (38). The label dispenser (36) is adapted to remove labels (12) from a backing strip (14) and transfer the labels (12) to the label receiver (38). The peeler bar (42) is configured with an integral heater (48) to heat each label (12) as the label (12) is passed over the peeler bar (42). A hot gas dispenser (52) is attached to the label dispenser (36) and is used to dispense a flow of heated air against the label (12) to soften the adhesive on each label (12) as the label (12) is passed from the label dispenser (36) to the label receiver (38). The label receiver (38) is adapted to releasably retain the label (12) and transfer the label (12) onto a surface on the article (18).</p> |
