A fixing element joins a primary bone fragment to a secondary bone fragment in a fracture. It comprises a widening element (2) and a longitudinal fixing member (1). The longitudinal fixing member has a proximal section which is fed into the primary bone fragment, and a distal section which is placed into the secondary bone fragment. The fixing member can be located in bores in the bone fragments by proximal location of the widening element in the hollow chamber, laterally to its longitudinal direction.
