A gas burner has a temperature sensor (26) in the combustion zone that is used by the control system to control air and fuel flows and mixing. An additional temperature sensor (28) is placed in the combustion zone in an area where a similar temperature is expected. The temperature difference of the two sensors is measured and used with a predetermined calibration curve to determine temperature. A characteristic curve for the temperature difference of the two sensors is determined for the expected temperature range and it can be used to compensate any changes in sensor behavior caused by aging and also to eliminate undesired influences caused by changes in surrounding temperature. An Independent claim is made for a gas burner using a two temperature sensor arrangement.
