Synergistic selective herbicidal composition, especially for use in rice, containing phenylsulfonylurea derivative and e.g. benthiocarb, pendimethalin or ethoxysulfuron

A herbicidal composition contains (A) a substituted phenylsulfonyl-urea (I) and (B) at least one of a range of other herbicides which are selectively active in rice. A herbicidal composition contains as active agents: (A) one or more of sulfonyl-ureas of formula (I) and their salts; and (B) one or more herbicides, selective in rice, selected from: (a) herbicides mainly for controlling grasses; (b) herbicides mainly for controlling dicotyledonous weeds and Cyperaceae; (c) herbicides mainly for controlling Cyperaceae; and (d) herbicides mainly for controlling grasses, dicotyledonous weeds and Cyperaceae. R1 = 1-8C alkyl, 3-4C alkenyl or 3-4C alkynyl; or 1-4C alkyl substituted by 1-4 of halo, OMe and OEt; R2 = I or CH2NHSO2Me; R3 = Me or OMe; Z' = N or CH. Excluded are compositions in which the sole active ingredients are a combination of: (1) (A') (I; R2 = I; R3 = Me; Z' = N) or its salt and (B') fenoxaprop, pendimethalin, nicosulfuron, mecoprop, MCPA, 2,4-D, dicamba, acifluorfen, azoles of formula (III), bentazone, metsulfuron, triasulfuron, ioxynil, acetochlor, metolachlor, oxyfluorfen or KIH-2023: or (2) (A'') (I; R2 = CH2NHSO2Me; R3 = OMe; Z' =CH) or its salt and (B'') fenoxaprop, pendimethalin, mecoprop, MCPA, 2,4-D, dicamba, (III), bentazone, triasulfuron, ioxynil, metosulam, oxyfluorfen or metsulfuron. R'1 = A; R'2 = A, OA or SA (all optionally substituted by one or more halo); or R'1 + R'2 = (CH2)3 or (CH2)4; A = 1-4C alkyl; R'3 = H or halo; R4 = H or A; R5 = H, NO2, COOR7, C(X)NR7R8 or C(X)R10; R6 = H, halo, CN, A, SA or NR11R12; R7, R8 = H or A; or NR7R8 = saturated 5- or 6-membered carbocyclic (sic) ring; R10 = H or A (optionally substituted by one or more halo); R11, R12 = H, A or COOA; or NR11R12 = 3-, 5- or 6-membered carbocyclic (sic) or aromatic ring, optionally having one C replaced by O.
