The X-ray source has an X-ray tube with a cathode (1) and an anode (2) contained within a vacuum housing (3), the cathode providing an electron beam (10) resulting in a focal spot (BF) at the anode. The electron beam is deflected by a control signal, to alter the position of the focal spot, with detection of the focal spot actual position, for comparison with the required position by a regulator (44), for provision of the control signal.
