<p>An activator suitable for use with a catalyst for the polymerisation of olefins is prepared by the treatment of a hydroxylated solid, fore example silica, with a compound containing an oxygen containing ligand, for example acetylacetonate. Alternatively the hydroxylated solid may be treated with a trialkylaluminium compound followed by an oxygen-containing compound, for example acetylacetone. The activators may suitably be used together with metallocene complexes for the polymerisation of olefins.</p> |
