The invention relates to the use of the protein sequence derived from the glucosylglycerol phosphate synthase gene with more than 60 %, preferably more than 70 % or 80 % and more particularly, more than 90 % identical amino acid residues corresponding to the DNA sequence shown in Table 1 in cultivated plants for producing glucosylglycerol.
