The sensor is a modified Nernst-type lambda -sensor in the gas-stream. It comprises a measuring electrode (15) of solid electrolyte, providing an electrically-conducting base layer (25) e.g. of Pt-cermet. It is covered by a porous layer (16). A further layer (27) of noble metal lies in the pores. The base layer is made as the cathode of a galvanic bath and the porous layer is applied by sintering. An Independent claim is included for a method for manufacturing the sensor.
