In a process to manufacture a piston engine cylinder head gasket, the material employed is applied in a soft condition (30) which subsequently hardens following assembly. A ring of hard material (34) is inserted in the peripheral zone around the cylinder head. The soft material is an acrylic or silicon-based adhesive.
