In the roller press assembly, to extract water from a wet fiber web in a papermaking machine, the roller axes (3,4) or their supports (11,12) are carried by a roller frame structure (14). At least one roller axis (4) can be given a sliding movement in at least one direction with horizontal components. The axis (3) of the upper roller (1) is positioned after the lower roller (2), in the direction of web travel. The web and at least one blanket pass through the press roller gap pref. at an angle to the lower roller (2). A continuous blanket passes round the upper roller (1). The upper press roller (1) has a profiled mantle surface. A trap as a longitudinal trough along the upper roller (1), after the roller press gap, catches water spun from it. The water trap can slide to change its position, especially with a swing movement. A continuous blanket can pass round both rollers (1,2).
