Producing steel, involves introduction of reduced iron pellets (10) into a submerged-electrode electric arc melting furnace (11) to produce liquid metal (12), and transfer of the liquid metal into an electric arc furnace (13) to produce a pool of liquid. The reduced iron pellets introduced into the furnace (11) forms a proportion of a total amount of reduced iron pellets and the rest of these pellets is introduced into the furnace (13).
