A semiconductor component which includes a circuit arrangement for driving an electric load (1), has a control circuit (2) having at least one semiconductor power switch (3) having a control arrangement (4) for feeding power to the load (1). At least one temperature detector (7) as well as a temperature evaluation circuit (5) are tightly, thermally coupled to the power switch. The temperature evaluator (5) generates an output signal which is dependent on the first temperature detection (7) and on a second temperature detection (6), the signal being supplied to the control circuit (4). The second temperature detector (6) provides a signal which is dependent on the ambience.
