PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process of a perbasic hydrocarbonized phenate-carboxylate having a low viscosity. SOLUTION: A perbasic hydroarbonized phenate-carboxylate having a low viscosity is produced by bringing a mixture of a hydrocarbonized phenate, at least one solvent, a metal hydroxide, an aq. metal halide soln., and a 1-5C alkyl polyhydric alcohol into contact with carbon dioxide under perbasicizing reaction conditions. The hydrocarbonized phenate is treated with a long-chain carboxylic acid or an anhydride or salt thereof before, during, or after the perbasicizing reaction to form a hydrocarbonized phenate-carboxylate. The hydrocarbonized phenate may be a sulfurized one or a nonsulfurized one. |
