PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment method for a polyacrylonitrile-based membrane for stabilizing a membrane structure and membrane performance without drastically degrading the breaking elongation and water permeation rate of the membrane by the heat treatment. SOLUTION: The polyacrylonitrile-based membrane is treated while the temp. of an aq. soln. used in the method for heat treating the membrane in the aq. soln. is changed from <=40 deg.C up to 45 to 60 deg.C at a heating up rate of 0.1 to 200 deg.C/hour and is finally treated for >=1 second with the aq. soln. of 45 to 60 deg.C.
