PURPOSE: A liquid crystal element is provided to sort molecule of nematic liquid crystal without supplying voltage. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal element comprises a pair of substrates having electrode and sorting film, nematic liquid crystal disposed between the substrates, sort-power supplied to the sorting film for sorting liquid crystal molecule of the nematic liquid crystal in bending sort state without supplying voltage, when predetermined voltage is supplied to the sorting film, coefficient of phase difference(R/.delta.nd) is 0.3. (index of refraction:.delta.n, cell thickness of liquid crystal element:d(nm), phase difference of liquid crystal element:R(nm)). The sorting film including ingredient of isotropic sorting film. |
