PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a phosphoric ester containing small amount of a pyrophosphate form, from a hydroxy compound having a carboxylic ester or amide, and a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I (X is O or NH; R1 is H or methyl; R2 is a 1-40C divalent hydrocarbon or the like) is reacted with a phosphorus oxyhalide, and the obtained product is hydrolyzed under an alkaline condition to provide the objective phosphoric ester of formula III having <=5 wt.% content of a compound of formula IV.
